My answer in most cases when asked this question is no. That’s unless your core market is teenagers/students, film, comedy, model, fashion or music related. A business where you are the product, promoting and trying to sell yourself.
Then this morning I was reading a report from comScore Networks (see below).
Occuring to comScore Networks…
More than Half of MySpace Visitors are Now Age 35 or Older, as the Site’s Demographic Composition Continues to Shift
There is a misconception that social networking is the exclusive domain of teenagers, but this analysis confirms that the appeal of social networking sites is far broader
So I decided to take another look at MySpace. While I was doing so I found a great article describing the confused state and older techie who failures to understand the concept.
Supposing … I’m too old for MySpace - The Guardian
Because I don’t “get” it. I mean, I know what MySpace is and what it’s supposed to do and how influential it is. It’s just that whenever I’ve visited a MySpace page I’ve thought “is that it?” and wandered around the perimeter looking confused, like a blind man patting the walls for an exit he can’t find.

I did a searching on Edinburgh pages and picked out the most business related pages:-

- http://www.myspace.com/sugarbeatclub - Nightclub Night
- http://www.myspace.com/deadbeatclub - Band

- http://www.myspace.com/impactmusicphotography - Professional Photography (music related)
- http://www.myspace.com/hotrockproductions - Music Management

I think this highlights what I said at the begin…
“unless your core market is teenagers, your prompting a movie, comedian, model, fashion or music related“
This maybe different in your home town or city but it doesn’t really convince me that have a MySpace is at all essential for your business.
And if you do working in the music industry check out the post below…
