How Good Is Your Business Blog - October
By Jamie | November 13, 2007
How good is your business blog is a monthly review on Terinea Weblog progress. I have listed a number of methods to measuring your blog progress. Keeping a record on your blog progress helps to give you encouragement in the early days and guidance .
As expected a drop in figures this month due to me moving the blog. So this month (and probably the next two months) I can’t pay too much attention to the results. On the plus side the blog has moved and the number of readers has increased.
Blog Juice
A massive drop from 3.6 to 1.7, as expected from the blog moving.
Page Views and Unique Visitors
Surprisingly the number of Unique Visitors is up? Although the number of Page Views is dropping, something I need to address.
RSS Subscriptions and Comments
The average number of RSS subscriptions (Thank you!) has continue to increase, but a big fall off on the number of comments. I have been posting less and maybe the substance hasn’t been of a certain quality?
Technorati Authority, Does It Matter?
When I moved Terinea Weblog last month I lost my Technorati authority figure of 174 (Now 11). I’ve also stopped using Technorati tags within my blog post, choosing instead to use WordPress built in tags.
So has it made any difference to my web traffic? I’m not sure, traffic has dropped a little but that was never massive anyway. The number of comments has dropped drastically, maybe this is the real affect of not using Technorati tags?
Summary
I think this experiment will be more interesting now I’ve move the blog. For example a Technorati Authority of 5 would of got you a rank of 426,909 in March. Now a Authority of 8 gets you 962,510 which is probably the increase in the number of blogs on the internet. I think by now we’ve realised that Technorati Authority of Y doesn’t equal X amount of RSS subscriptions.

Some very interesting observations Jami - I haven’t dared look at my stats whilst I’ve been away and since my Blog move!
I wonder - has Feedburner had any impact or been affected by the Blog move?
I also notice your Blog Juice rating is currently 1.9 for http://www.terinea.co.uk/blog and 3.8 for http://www.terinea.co.uk/
For me, the key figure would be the Unique Vistors which is looking very healthy indeed! Keep it up.

Hi Jamie,
Moving your blog was always going to result in a hit. I can testify to that. You made the right move, however, and I’m sure you’ll continue to pick up new readers as you move forward.
All the best.

Off-topic, every time I leave a comment, I’m greeted with this line:
Access denied for user ‘www’@'localhost’ (using password: NO) on line: 544
My comment is posted though, but it doesn’t seem like it at first. Not sure why.

Going to do a upgrade of WP next week and fix a few of those bugs.
Thanks David.
Jason - With feedburner I simply changed the URL from which it pulls the RSS from. I’ve kept the URL for feedburner the same.

It was an issue with Popularity WP plugin. I upgraded it to the latest version and that seems to of fixed it.
