Increasing your Technorati authority
By Jamie | August 2, 2007
At the beginning of the new year my goal was get Terinea Weblog a Technoarti Authority of 50 before the year is out. Last Friday I achieve this four months earlier than expected. So what have I done to achieve this?
Although I’ve been blogging for the company for well over year now, I would say only in the last six months have made any real progress. So here’s a couple of things I’ve done differently since then…
- Game Plan - A blog statement to keep you on track…
“Computer and IT tips for businesses. No geeky stuff, just IT solutions that help your business.”
I try my best to keep the geek stuff to a minimal, I’ve realised that “50 Things To Do With Your iPod” is not suite blog post because it far too geeky, pointless really and won’t add any value to your business.
- Socialise with bloggers offline - This has been massive help, Edinburgh Coffee Morning
- Blog regularly - space out posts and try to mix the topics about.
- Comments, comments, comments, comments and constructive ones at that
- Reply to Comments - Check out people’s weblogs
- Regular visit your favourites, build a relationship - Comment on them and provide a little link love now and again.
- Added Value - If you’ve nothing of value to add, don’t blog it. Ewan McIntosh told me this one.
- Blog layout - Think about your layout and how to promote your best articles. Yeah my site is need of overhaul.
- Time and Planning - Despite what I first thought, a good quality blog post takes more than 10 minutes.
- Blogging offline events - I have made an effort to attend interesting talks and presentation.
Push the button
I think technology blogs are generally more competitive, or should I say in a more well established field? The geek scene has been blogging, writing in forums, coding website’s since the birth of the internet. Only in the last five years have non-techies had access to push button publishing that doesn’t require a web developer, which is a good thing! I would also say I’ve come across techies who turn their nose up at the notion of blogging, they don’t see the point. They’ve have been building website’s since 1994, why is this blogging thing any different?
Christmas
Anyway my new goal is to archive a Technorati authority of 100 before the year is out.

Anyway, I’m keeping an updated Do Follow List on my site and since yours is do-follow as well, I want to ask you if you want to join my list too.
There are over 240 websites featured here, so go on and start commenting on those appealing to you.
Let me know!
Thanks,

Nicusor - Nice blog/website.
Seeena - Couple of things that come to mind…
* Pick a dedicated host with a domain
* Some pictures to break up the post, prefer not adverts.
Thanks

Congrats on the big 50 - it’s testament to the hard work you are putting in. I’ve recently been stripping a number of things out of my Blog such as the links to Blog directories, Meez and other unnecessary things as I aim to make more proactive use of the valuable Blog real estate.
You’re Blog post has given me some real food for thought - mind you I don’t think I’ll ever lose the geek in me.

Thanks Jason,
Just give your blog time, I think it will be successful. I suppose your aiming your blog at IT managers/ Directors etc who have an understanding, although I have come across many who don’t!
I made a mistake when I first started by not thinking about the end user I want to attract (Owners of businesses/Managers) .
I had lots of links to blogging directories, I binned them at the beginning of the year too.

Nice job on your blog and increasing your Technorati rank.
I appreciate your posting your articles on DailyHub — they are thoughtful and add value to the site.

Thank you Brian!
I like the Daily Hub too, Digg is great but its too geeky and immature at times.

Magic? At the moment our Technorati authority has shot up from 64 to 105 in a week due to a competition we are involved in.
