If you ever wanted to find out more about the Linux Operating System, this weekend could be a good starting point. The Debian Conference 2007, nicked named DebConf7 starts this weekend at the University of Edinburgh building Teviot between the 16th to 23rd of June.

Linux is a free alternative to Microsoft Windows and Apple’s OS X operating systems. Debian is a version of Linux; others include RedHat, Ubuntu and SuSE.

    Debian Day

The conference starts on this Saturday the 16th with Debian Day, a short conference aimed at Debian users, and others interested in learning more about free software. Events should be suitable to both a technical and non-technical audience. With guess speakers from HP to Green Party, and sponsors include Google, Sun MicroSystems and Nokia to name a few.

Why You Might Want To Attend

As a business owner you are always looking at ways to reduce your running costs and maximise your business systems, Linux operating system could just help you do that. With no licensing costs for deploying the operating system within your business and a great range of products, Linux could be more suited to your business than Microsoft Windows or OS X from Apple.

Did you know 75% of websites on the internet run on Linux Servers?

What’s the kilts bit? Well organisers of the conference will apparently be wearing the Debian Tartan, based on Debian in Morse code, typical!

Will report more on this event next week
